NICHA’s
wastewater treatment system
NICHA’s wastewater treatment system is a next-generation, environmentally safe solution designed to improve water quality, remove hazardous substances, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from wastewater ponds and treatment facilities. By utilizing a clean carbonate solution derived from NICHA CCUS and NICHA DAC, the system adjusts pH, precipitates heavy metals, neutralizes chemical contaminants, and significantly mitigates methane (CH₄) and nitrous oxide (N₂O) emissions—two of the most potent greenhouse gases. Because the carbonate solution is mildly alkaline and free from toxic or corrosive chemicals, NICHA WWT offers an effective, low-risk alternative to conventional chemical treatment methods such as PAC, alum, or amine-based agents.
How it works!
• Heavy metal & chemical precipitation (Fe, Mn, Pb, Zn)
• Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions:
– Methane (CH₄) reduced by ~50%
– Nitrous Oxide (N₂O) reduced by ~17%
• Formation of stable carbonate sludge
NICHA WWT Process
1. Initial water quality assessment (pH, heavy metals, COD/BOD, odor, color)
2. Continuous carbonate dosing
3. Carbonate precipitation and metal removal
4. CH₄/N₂O reduction by ORP adjustment and microbial suppression
5. Sludge separation and final polishing
Benefits
• Efficient removal of heavy metals & chemical contaminants
• 50% reduction in CH₄ emissions
• 17% reduction in N₂O emissions
• No hazardous chemicals (no PAC, Alum, Amine)
• Stable carbonate sludge
• Reduces COD/BOD and odor
Applications
• Industrial wastewater ponds
• Municipal wastewater treatment plants
• Livestock farms / biogas ponds
• Industrial estate treatment systems
• Anaerobic digesters requiring CH₄/N₂O mitigation
