NICHA’s
Soil Carbon Sequestration (SCS)
Soil Carbon Sequestration (SCS) is a natural climate solution that strengthens the soil’s capacity to store carbon over long timescales. The NICHA SCS system enhances this process by converting carbonate ions (CO₃²⁻) into stable mineral carbonates—primarily calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) and magnesium carbonate (MgCO₃). These mineral forms remain locked within soil matrices for decades to centuries, providing durable, verifiable carbon storage while simultaneously improving soil health and agricultural productivity.
NICHA SCS uses a clean, non-toxic carbonate solution generated by the NICHA CCUS and NICHA DAC systems. This solution contains no heavy metals or hazardous chemicals, making it safe for use across farmlands, degraded soils, forest restoration sites, and a wide range of ecological rehabilitation projects.
How it works!
• CO₃²⁻ + Ca²⁺ → CaCO₃ (solid)
• CO₃²⁻ + Mg²⁺ → MgCO₃ (solid)
NICHA SCS Process
1. Soil pre-assessment
2. Carbonate solution application
3. Mineral carbonation reaction
4. Monitoring and MRV
